The Ordination of Jeff Edmister
On Saturday, June 4, 2011, there was a flurry of activity at Christ Church for the ordination of Jeffrey Rae Edmister to the diaconate. Preparations were conpleted for the service...clergy and guests arrived, choirs rehearsed, food prepared and the service proceeded. It began with soothing tones of the violin and piano as well as glorious music from choirs, violin, congregation and handbells on 'Hail Thee, Festival Day'. The lessons were read with Martha Farone, Jeff's sister-in-law and Almon Leach doing the readings. The Psalm was sung and a calling of the Holy Spirit was sung by the Bishop answered by the congregation. With a balcony of 25 musicians and 120 in the congregation, our new bishop, The Right Rev. William Franklin invited the congregation to state that they would support and uphold Jeff's ministry as a deacon in the Diocese of WNY. Presentations were made with vestments presented by his wife, Lisa and sister-in-law Laura, and a bible presented to him by the bishop. Applause was given and Jeff was official.
The service continued with Holy Communion, a communion hymn, 'I Am the Bread of Life', and a post-communion hymn, 'Go Now in Peace' by Don Besig. A final blessing signaled the last hymn and conclusion of the service with 'Lift High the Cross'. Many people came to wish Jeff well, from his family to the diocese, to our congregation and friends. A luncheon reception, deliciously prepared by the ladies of the Mary Hunt Guild, followed the service and was attended by all.

EAST END CAFÉ/COFFEE HOUSE AT CHRIST CHURCH A HUGE SUCCESS!!
Christ Church hosted their first Coffee House/Café with a live Christian Band on Saturday, April 9th 7 pm to 9:30 pm. The admission was free and menu items were: Coffee floats, cappuccino floats, root beer floats, all $2 ea. Also teas, hot cocoa, pop, water, pizza slices, nachos/cheese and specialty brownies all $1 ea.
Over 80 young people and adults came to listen to the LIVE band, ‘Beautiful Tragedy’, a high school Christian Band, who were well received.
When asked ‘what is it like being a person of faith in high school these days?’ John Cater, the bands’ leader responded, “Being a Christian in high school…well you could write a book on that, these days. As a Christian, I’ve lived a life in high school knowing everyone is watching you, waiting for you to mess up, waiting to call you out on your imperfections. Life as a Christian in a public school is a daily walk by faith. I am constantly meeting people, for the first time it would seem, when I find out friends I’ve known for quite some time are Christians, but choose not to mention it ever. As a Christian in high school, all too often it feels like there’s an unwritten ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ law. It’s almost like how after Christs’ death Christians were persecuted, and had to draw the half fish in the sand to tell if someone was Christian or not, and if the person they were near finished the fish that meant it was safe to converse with them on Christ. It truly is a walk by faith, with trials and tribulations around every corner. Yet, as the ministry has started, I’ve found that more and more people are willing to talk about their faith. I feel it’s a start in a new direction for Christian leaders within the high school. And that is pretty much how it is!”
